About
This limited-edition photobook, NEW YORK 1969 II, showcases an evocative series of black-and-white snapshots taken by Tenmei Kanoh in 1969, on his first visit to New York City. Young and in his twenties, Kanoh was in New York on assignment for Heibon Punch magazine, capturing the raw, energetic essence of the city in a series of street photographs taken between official shoots. These images marked the beginning of Kanoh's influential career, capturing New York’s dynamism through his lens.
Upon his return to Japan, he released his debut photobook, FUCK, which propelled his name into the spotlight. NEW YORK 1969 II is a re-edited version of his 2014 photobook NEW YORK 1969, now expanded with additional, previously unpublished images.
Each of the 98 pages is printed in black and white, and every copy features Kanoh's handwritten serial number and autograph, emphasizing its exclusivity as one of just 300 copies. Released on May 11, 2016, this photobook captures Kanoh's early perspective and artistic spirit, making it a cherished collector's item.
